A no-brainer

You'd think so, anyway. Another article in the New York Times this week has some sound advice for helping kids learn: let them play.
Yet many schools are cutting back on recess: the article cites a study that found 30 percent of schools had little or no daily recess.
I think I remember we had three recess periods in elementary school.
Both my son's* and daughter's preschools value their outside time so much that I think they've only stayed in about twice this winter, when it was approximately 33 below zero withOUT windchill, and they actually apologized. On one of those occasions, they brought snow inside to play with. (Which is one of those things that works so much better in theory.)
I'm enjoying it now, and happy to remain in ignorant bliss until the reality of Kindergarten and the bureaucracy of a large public school system becomes reality.

Yeah Stepping Stones!! I love that they go outside to play. It's the highlight for Kai and for me too.

Kai has said, "ohhee," (Zoe) all night after their zoo field trip together-- I asked him what his favorite animal was and he said, "ohhee." :)
