Not that we're encouraging fitness aimed solely at weight loss around here; not that we're encouraging competitive weight loss; not that we think numbers on a scale actually mean all that much ... BUT, the fact of the matter is that Eric and I both want to get down to our respective racing weights. So, the competition is open, and advice is needed (preferably the kind that advises you to eat as much chocolate and guacamole as you want). Ideas for rewards also needed.
Weigh in on the winner over here (top right).

It's not really fair, because all guys have to do is sneeze and whoops, there goes 10 pounds.
However, I find that cutting alcohol and dessert helps, but I find that I'm really bad at cutting out those things.
Trust me, I have to do more than sneeze. I tried that starting two weeks ago, I sneezed for 7 days. Sneezed so hard I got an ear infection and blew out my ear drum. After that my temperature shot to 101 and I laid about shivering 2 days. Net weight loss over period (+1 pounds), so technically I guess that's a gain.
In the 5 days since starting the competition I'm down 4 pounds. I've eaten three salads instead of meals, gotten in the first summer basketball game, and probably bled 2 pounds because my competitive juices are flowing.
Maybe, the real difference is guys play soccer and basketball to lose weight? Not sure the people I was playing with are living examples of healthy body-weight through basketball, but they could lose 10 pounds and you wouldn't even know.
Go easy with the carbs. And definitely *limit* them after 5:00 p.m. It works.
cut alcohol for sure. one treat per day.
last time i did this with dan (in 2003), we were on a general "eat healthier and exercise diet."
after two weeks i said, "hey, this is working! i've lost four pounds!" dan said, "I've lost 17; I have to go off the diet."
So... i feel like you will both do well, but eric will probably win.
Well, at least Eric can eat as much chocolate and guacamole as he wants!
