Watching TV Drama Is Like Looking Into A Distorted Mirror For Many Viewers
TV drama is probably the more popular and most demanded form of TV and video entertainment as most of the time the shows are just amplifications of real life. The come closer to being reality shows that any on purpose reality show could ever be since they are the furthest from real life as they can be. There really are no new plots to play out on TV drama.
Just new faces, new venues, new clothes style but the underlying happiness, tragedy and sorrow are still the same. All we change is the public face on the situation and therein lies the appeal of TV drama.
It’s so easy to overlay your own life situations, albeit at a different pace and severity, right onto the shows current weekly adventure simply by changing the names and places in your sub-conscious. This sympathetic rendering of the storyline is what builds the ultimate and strong fan base that locks actors into roles they will never shake. In fact the reason I find Dr. Who so invigorating at times is the breaking in of the new Doctor which parallels life. Like when your hero’s get old, die, move away or get replaced when you least expect it. It’s the same as describing professional wrestling as being nothing more than drama driven soap operas for young men.
